CRABi - Biomolecular and Isotopic Archaeology Research Community - Bordeaux - November 2026
First CRABi Conference Research Community in Biomolecular and Isotopic Archaeology Bordeaux, November 12 and 13, 2026
Over the past decade, the field of biomolecular archaeological sciences has experienced remarkable growth, marked by a diversification of approaches—such as ancient DNA, isotopic biogeochemistry, organic residues, paleoproteomics, paleometabolomics, and infrared spectroscopy—and an expansion of applications across humans, animals, plants, pathogens, and sediments.
In response to this dynamic evolution, the CRABi project (Communauté de Recherche en Archéologie Biomoléculaire et Isotopique—Research Community in Biomolecular and Isotopic Archaeology) aims to unite French and Francophone researchers, engineers, PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows in the field. Our goal is to foster exchange, strengthen networks, and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration within this scientific community.
With this in mind, we invite you to join us for the first CRABi conference in Bordeaux on November 12–13, 2026, dedicated to all disciplines within biomolecular and isotopic archaeological sciences. The conference seeks to promote interactions between approaches and themes centered on major transdisciplinary topics, complemented by informal exchange opportunities (roundtables, thematic discussions, and networking events).
This event is a unique opportunity for researchers at all academic levels—particularly early-career researchers—to present their work, expand their professional networks, and forge collaborations beyond their original teams or disciplines. We envision this inaugural CRABi conference, designed as a human-scale gathering, becoming a cornerstone event for the French biomolecular and isotopic archaeology community. Our aim is to enhance its visibility, cohesion, and dynamism, laying the foundation for a sustainable and collaborative network that boosts national and international recognition and supports the training of the next generation of researchers in this rapidly expanding field.
For this Bordeaux edition, our ambition is to bring together a wide range of presentations, reflecting the richness of our community’s approaches—whether highly specialized or interdisciplinary, methodological or applied, and regardless of the subject matter. All analytical perspectives are welcome to enrich collective discussions and reflections!
